Preventing Floorcovering Failures Through Integrated Design

Preventing Floorcovering Failures Through Integrated Design

Finish elements such as the floorcovering system have a great impact on the final aesthetics of a structure. Floorcovering specification sections often do not address the compatibility of the floorcovering system with the type of application and intended service use. This is not done intentionally, rather it is an innate result of a misunderstanding of sufficient compatibilities of the various types of floorcovering systems within their installed environments. During this presentation, we will discuss published floorcovering systems installation standards and specifications that will aid the attendee in strengthening their 09 Sections to avoid these incompatibilities. In addition, identification and categorization of various floorcovering system failures, immediate and latent, will be presented, and how to properly prevent these failures from occurring during the design process for a successful floorcovering system installation.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify the documents that clearly define proper installation of the floorcovering system.
  2. Recognize the impact of misspecification of floorcovering systems.
  3. Evaluate the impact of improper floorcovering systems installation.
  4. Specify appropriate ambient site conditions to avoid floorcovering system installation failure.
  5. Avoid floorcovering systems failures through improper/outdated design specifications.
