High-performance coatings are a necessity when it comes to protecting building exteriors and restoring them after harsh weathering and UV degradation; the right coatings prolong a building exterior’s life span and divert materials from landfills.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Discuss the different categories of high-performance coatings and their role in protecting a building’s exterior and improving its appearance
  2. Compare various types of high-performance coatings, focusing on PVDF resins and the attributes and sustainability benefits associated with water-based formulations
  3. Examine the various uses of PVDF-based coating systems and their contributions to sustainability while achieving aesthetic objectives, and
  4. Summarize the application parameters that ensure the optimal performance of a coating system as well as applicator and user safety and well-being.

Styles and trends are such critical components in the design process of an outdoor living space. In this course we will discuss how styles and trends are selected and review the options that exist in railing systems.​The maintenance of the systems is also a key component.

  1. Identify three key points to think about when designing rails for a deck on SF Residential homes.
  2. Identify the three key points to think about when looking at rail for MF structures.
  3. Explain the value of using standardized products and processes in order to develop railing details and master specifications that may be applied to diverse projects.
  4. Learn about the tools available to architects to help with designing rail quicker and easier.
