Terrazzo in Healthcare

The purpose of this presentation is to provide general information which will be helpful in specifying terrazzo in a hospital or healthcare setting. The participants will gain an understanding of the various terrazzo systems and how terrazzo can be utilized in a variety of design applications.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Explain what terrazzo is, its rich history, and why it should be specified in hospitals and healthcare settings. It will show how terrazzo is essential in operating rooms. It will give the definition, and list components. Endless color options and various aggregates will be discussed.
  2. Explore the green elements and sustainability of terrazzo. The original recycled flooring, terrazzo has proven to last over 100 years in buildings and survive hurricanes and flooding events.
  3. Explain the types of systems available in terrazzo. The differences in cement systems and epoxy will be explained. The installation of each system will be shown and discussed. Surface preparation, moisture testing, grouting and grinding will be addressed.
  4. Address poured in place stairs, curbs, non-slip strips, crack repair, flexural test, crack membrane, and divider strips.
